Andrea Sanchez has never limited herself as far as subject matter, but the human figure and portraiture have always been her strengths. The public will have the opportunity to see some of her strongest paintings in her new exhibit, “Truth Lives Within Us” at Gallery 7000, April 5th-30th. A rousing Opening Reception takes place on Friday, April 9th, 5:30-7 pm at the gallery at The Santa Barbara Channels, 7000 Hollister Ave. in Goleta.
Andrea paints in oils, finding a balance between a deep appreciation for mark-making in the tradition of the abstract expressionists, and a desire to paint realism. She works out her paintings on the canvas and watches them evolve. She’s drawn to using blues, either as a background or in the subject matter. Her color choices are both emotionally and aesthetically driven. The objects she paints are personal and symbolic, representing people, places, things and events in her life. Visit abqgallery.com to see a sample of her work.
Growing up on a small farm in New Mexico with sheep, a horse, and chickens, gave Andrea a great respect for living off the land, and for both the great beauty and fragility of life. At 17 she lived for a summer along the Parana River in Brazil, which helped open her eyes to the value system so heavily marketed in the United States, based upon consumption, much less prevalent in Brazil at that time. She graduated suma cum laude from Arizona State University in 2005 with the great honor of being named Painter of the Year. Raising her daughter as a single mother has given her the motivation to share her artwork with the world—doing her best to have a positive impact on this earth as a teacher and artist. She also enjoys volleyball, and singing and playing guitar.
This is the third exhibit to take place at Gallery 7000, located in The Santa Barbara Channels Community Media Access Center. The Santa Barbara Channels (www.sbchannels.tv) is the nonprofit that operates cable channels 17 and 21.
