I highly recommend this series! Recorded in 1972, it is an insightful presentation on how a specific type of European oil painting connects to advertising and visual language. He says there is no dialog yet in the quote above. However, in 2016 we are reaching a point where social media images are starting to bridge that gap. It makes me curious to learn more about his later works.
The four half hour episodes cover:
- How transmittable images change the tradition of painting and convey other meaning.
- The femanine gaze in paintings and ads – cultural impact of the objectified nude and her passive posture.
- Paintings as deceleration of ownership and wealth status.
- Advertising images of glamor that clash with real life placement.
