Getting technical with Mx5

I purchased a Mazda Mx5 because I was told it was easy to work on. Now I know what that means because the last few weeks I have been working on fixing a leak by replacing the decomposing soft top of my car. It was too big of a job for a novice like me. Luckily my father was up to the task of leading the project and so it was successfully completed.

We followed instructions that some random mechanic saint published online for anyone to use. It took us two weekends or about 4 days for the work. This does not count the research that went into selecting the right parts and the tricky tools.

One day I aspire to be mixing more art and technology and this project was a glimpse into the kind of complexity, patience, and precision of mechanical things. Here are a few of the photos of our process.
