Digital Marketing Tips and Hootsuite Analytic Reports

I use Hootsuite to manage my 10 social media accounts. It’s a platform that has been around for years and they are changing the updating their service on an ongoing basis. The reporting is more interesting now and I wanted to share one example of drilling down on the analytics to get some insight into how to leverage social media. It take a little creative thinking to make sense of the data and a systematic approach to seeing what strategies get results. Also, it’s different for each audience and industry.

For this example, I’m looking back at the last year of my own account to come up with a new focus for increasing the engagement with my current audience as well as growing it. It’s about identifying what I like and what my audience likes too. I’m always looking for ways to exploit the 80/20 rule in social media. If you are not familiar with this, watch the video below. It’s a great overview!

Hootsuite’s Mixed Overview Report

The Mixed overview report adds up all the data from the various accounts by platform. While the report is much longer, what I’ve selected here is a section on engagement. You can see that Instagram at 1.7k is much more active than my Twitter and Facebook accounts that are in the low hundreds. This is a low volume of social media activity, and reflective of the fact that I my post frequency was minimal last year.

Instagram Overview Report

Drilling down I can look at the Instagram overview report. It shows me that of the three accounts that I have, my art account is the most active. I can sort posts by like and comment engagement. It makes sense because my art account is the only social media account that I’ve been regularly spending time on in the last year. It’s also in alignment with the tends of personal marketing and social influencer marketing.

click on the the sentiment

I really like that they provide a sentiment report and allow you to see what the positive the negative comment are. In this post, I was talking about motion sickness and people were commiserating with me. It might be the case that posts I make that contain unhappy sentiment also get engagement.

Social Media Take Aways for Mid-Year

The message I’m getting is that personal marketing and a focus on LIVE engagement is the way to go for social media. I’ve gone back and forth with changing my account names from Mitra Cline to Foreverbird Studio. I’m going back to the personal marketing with my name. I’ve made some adjustments across the platforms so that my username and image is me! I’m also focusing on what I enjoy and that is the LIVE video’s on the different platforms. Periscope is a live video app that I’m enjoying.
